Assign phone
It is possible to assign a phone to the user/location's extension. This is needed when the phone
does not have Login/logout capability (such as a port on an Foreign eXchange Station (FXS)
or a Mitel 5485 Paging unit.
For certain types of phones (such as the Mitel 5212 IP phone), the phone must be assigned to
the user/location's extension since the phone does not have Login/logout capability.
The Mitel 5212 IP phone must first be plugged into the network and allowed to initialize.
Once the phone has initialized (the display shows "Logged Out"), you can assign the extension
by following these steps:
1. Add a user/location in to the system. The user/location extension will be used for this
phone. See Add users on page Add users on page 11.
2. Select Phone Inventory in the left menu.
3. Select the Phone Label corresponding to the device that you want to configure an extension
for. The Phone Label will be the MAC address shown on a sticker on the back of the phone.
4. Select the user/location from the Assigned User/Location list.
5. Select the Save button to save your changes, or select the Cancel button to discard your
changes.
Fax
Integrate a fax machine into the IP phone system using a FXS gateway. Typically, a FXS
gateway can support one fax machine per port. Each port of the FXS gateway appears as a
separate device in the Phone Inventory list. From this list, you can view and modify the device
details and configure an extension for your fax machines. Once the FXS gateway is installed
and configured, see Configure fax extension.
Contact your service provider for assistance in the purchase, configuration, and installation of
a FXS gateway.
Configure fax extension
To receive and send faxes, the port of a device that is connected to a fax machine must have
an extension.
To configure an extension for a fax, follow these steps:
1. Select Company Settings.
2. Select Add a location.
Note: User and phone configuration information is maintained when you reset a device.
Resetting a device may end a call in progress.
